Existing cancer treatment methods such as radiation therapy, chemotherapy, and surgery, are limited in effect and even have side effects. Radiation Therapy: causes negative impact to normal cells Chemotherapy: May not cure all cancer cells and cause negative side effects and tolerance Surgery: Hard to remove cancer that is widespread. Examples: liver cancer, lung cancer spread to several locations in the body
CANCER REMAINS AN ESSENTIAL HEALTHCARE ISSUE
- Every sixth death in the world is due to cancer, making it the second leading cause of death (after cardiovascular diseases). The global deaths by cancers have increased from around 5.7 million in 1990 to 9.6million in 2019.
- In 2020, there were an estimated 1.8 million new cancer cases diagnosed and 606,520 cancer deaths in the United States.
- Cancer is the second leading cause of death, after heart disease, in the United States
